After becoming an ordained minister at 10 years old, seasoned veteran of the Philly music scene by his late teens and leading Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes through a series of notable hits, the gruff-voiced Teddy Pendergrass came into his own as a hugely successful solo artist in 1977 and beyond.
